Chelsea winger Pedro Neto struck twice in the second half to earn the club a 2-0 victory against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, handing the hosts their first defeat of the season.
Neto broke the deadlock within the first minute after the restart, controlling Jorrel Hato’s low cross before firing past Jordan Pickford.
The Portuguese winger later sealed the win during 11 minutes of stoppage time, coolly slotting home after Everton’s wall blocked a Jordan Henderson free-kick.
The victory lifted Chelsea above Everton into the Premier League top four and delivered their first clean sheet in 23 league matches.
The win was tempered, however, by a severe head injury to Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez following a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

Medical staff treated Martinez on the pitch before transferring him to hospital for precautionary tests, allowing Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders to make his Premier League debut in relief.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso praised his team’s disciplined away display, noting that the victory provided a crucial baseline for the season.
Everton manager David Moyes conceded that Chelsea possessed the extra creative flair needed to decide a tense, fiery encounter that featured five first-half bookings.
The result secures Chelsea’s first away win of the campaign as they build momentum in the league standings.
