Rangers International FC has formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over incidents involving visiting supporters at its Champions League match against MC Alger in Abeokuta.

The Enugu club announced the petition in a statement on Monday, October 19. It said the incidents happened during and after the first leg of the tie, played at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Sunday.

Rangers said it raised concerns about “the reported destruction of a stadium entrance gate”, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalised stadium seats and other acts of disorder. The club did not say how many supporters were involved or give a cost for the damage.

The petition asks CAF to intervene urgently, including by considering “appropriate precautionary measures” ahead of the return leg in Algiers on Friday, October 23. The statement did not specify what measures the club wants.

Rangers said it remains committed to fair play, respect for football regulations and the safety of players, officials, supporters and all stakeholders. It said it has confidence in CAF’s established processes and is awaiting a response.

The club also urged its own supporters to remain calm, disciplined and focused as the team prepares for the return fixture.

The tie is the second and final preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, with the winner reaching the group stage. Rangers qualified by beating AS Sobemap of Benin 5-4 on penalties.

CAF has not publicly responded to the petition. MC Alger has not commented on the claims.
