Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed responsibility for attacks on four locations in Saudi Arabia, including the Defence Ministry building in Riyadh and military aircraft at two airports, using ballistic missiles and a drone.

The group also said it had “repelled an attempted advance” by Saudi-backed forces near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

In a post on X, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had struck the Saudi Defence Ministry building in Riyadh with a ballistic missile.

In a separate statement, Saree claimed that the Houthis had targeted Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia with a drone.

He also said the group fired two ballistic missiles at military transport aircraft, targeting one at Najran Airport and another at King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait.

Saudi officials had not immediately responded to the Houthi claims.

However, Turki Al-Malki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, said in a post on X on Tuesday that coalition air defences had “intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the terrorist Houthi militia toward Riyadh”.

Houthis Claim Attack On Saudi Oil Refinery

Earlier on Tuesday, Yemen’s Houthis claimed they had launched an attack on the Ras Tanura oil refinery, Saudi Arabia’s largest, located along the Gulf.

Saudi Arabia said it had contained a fire near its largest oil export terminal at Ras Tanura following an attack in the area, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday near facilities operated by state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco.

The extent of the damage, if any, was not immediately clear.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia lifted an emergency warning in the southern city of Abha after authorities announced that the danger had passed, Anadolu reported.

The country’s National Early Warning Platform had earlier alerted residents to a potential threat, urging them to follow safety instructions. However, the alert did not specify the nature of the danger or provide further details.

Residents were also advised to contact emergency services if necessary.

Clashes Leave Nearly 100 Fighters Dead

Separately, renewed fighting between Yemen’s government forces and the Houthis in the country’s southwest has killed nearly 100 fighters, military sources from both sides told AFP.

The sources said at least 63 Houthi fighters and 34 pro-government combatants had been killed, with most of the deaths reported near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The attacks come as the Houthis have intensified strikes on Saudi territory since July, with missile and drone attacks on civilian airports, oil facilities and military sites increasing during October.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s government against the Houthis since March 2015.

The Houthis, who have been accused of receiving Iranian support, have controlled Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and other parts of the country since September 2014.
