President Bola Tinubu has described completing the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, as a fulfilling spiritual experience, saying he used the opportunity to pray for Nigeria.
The President spoke after performing the religious rites, expressing gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to visit the holy city and offer prayers for the country.
“It’s a spiritual thing for me and the country, Nigeria. I’m grateful to Allah for this opportunity,” he said.
Tinubu said the pilgrimage was personally meaningful and held significance for Nigeria, adding that he had asked for peace, harmony and happiness among citizens.
The President attributed his journey to his affection for the people and commitment to his responsibilities, while expressing his belief that events would ultimately follow Allah’s will.
“I believe the love of the people, the commitment to the job, and the physical commitment to it. I believe that Allah’s wish in His court must prevail,” he said.

Businessman Abdul Samad Rabiu, who was part of the presidential delegation, said the visit provided an opportunity to pray for Nigeria’s peace and unity.
Rabiu added that the delegation had also prayed for a successful electoral process, expressing hope that future elections would be free, fair and peaceful.
“We are here in this sacred place to pray for Nigeria, to pray for peace, long-lasting peace for the country, for unity in Nigeria,” Rabiu said.
Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, said the President had maintained a regular practice of visiting the holy land to seek divine guidance for himself and the country.
“There’s never been a year that we didn’t come to seek the face of our Almighty Allah,” he said.
Rahman, who said he had accompanied Tinubu on the visits since 2016, noted that the President had consistently used the pilgrimage to pray for Nigeria.
He described the latest visit as especially important as the country approaches another election period, saying the delegation had sought prayers for a credible and successful exercise.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum also called for lasting peace and stability, saying national unity remained essential to Nigeria’s future.
“The most important thing is for the return of peace and tranquillity to Nigeria. We pray that Almighty Allah shall give us lasting peace and tranquillity in Nigeria,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to value peace and prayed for an end to insecurity and unrest across the country.
