President Donald Trump stated Tuesday that he would accept the midterm election results, yet he quickly shifted blame to his own party after voters swept Democrats into control of both the House and Senate.
Despite spending months telling voters to treat his presence on the campaign trail as if he were on the ballot, Trump posted on Truth Social, “I wasn’t on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
A White House official reinforced this stance by criticising GOP candidate quality, asserting, “Candidate quality matters, and President Trump did a better job promoting many of the candidates on the ballot than the candidates did themselves.”
Trump also targeted unseated Texas Governor Greg Abbott, claiming Abbott lost because he became a “RINO.”
Trump later adopted a conciliatory tone during an interview with The New York Times, saying, “I am absolutely willing to accept those results. We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them.”

However, he quickly signalled potential legislative gridlock by posting a picture of his trademark red MAGA hat alongside the word “VETO.”
