Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with the United States, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has interpreted the Republican Party’s defeat in the US midterm elections as a rejection of the war against Iran by American voters.
Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress in a sweeping electoral victory that dealt a major blow to President Donald Trump and his party.
The results reflected voter dissatisfaction over the rising cost of living, tariffs and the conflict with Iran, which has driven up fuel prices and added to criticism of Trump’s presidency.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Ghalibaf said Americans had rejected the war, whether because of their conscience or the financial pressures it had created.
Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message.
If the US govt betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a Nightmare.

“Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message,” Ghalibaf said.
He added that Iran supported that position and warned that any attempt by the US government to disregard public opinion in favour of foreign interests would have serious consequences.
“If the US govt betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a Nightmare.”
The war began in February following US-Israeli strikes on Iran and has remained largely deadlocked for months, with occasional exchanges of fire raising concerns about a possible return to full-scale hostilities.
