President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition presidential hopeful Peter Obi of failing to tackle erosion in Anambra State when he was governor, saying he had “run away” from the problem.
Speaking at an All Progressives Congress rally in Akwa Ibom State on Friday, Tinubu contrasted Obi’s record with what he described as his own efforts to confront coastal challenges in Lagos.
“He (Peter Obi) ran away from erosion in Anambra State. And he said he wants to be a president. Which president?” Tinubu told supporters.
“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I confronted the Atlantic Ocean, I tamed it for you,” he said, adding that Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno was also tackling erosion in his state.

Tinubu also criticised former vice president Atiku Abubakar, questioning his political loyalty after he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“If a man that once upon a time was a baby of the PDP, became a father of the PDP and, because of a little inconvenience, he ran away from that party and formed a dangerous ADC in another party. Is that a leadership trait? Is that a leadership character? And he wants you to vote for him. It is not for banana. He cannot put a house in order.” Tinubu said.
He also dismissed opposition parties as lacking the leadership and calibre of the ruling APC.

“We are not like other mushroom parties. They don’t have the kind of character and the calibre of people that we have,” he said.
