The founder and chairman of Alpha Group, Seif El Hakim, has said building a sustainable company requires more than the excitement of starting a business, stressing the need for strong financial controls, effective systems and a team capable of making decisions without relying on the founder.

Speaking at the Global Entrepreneurship Festival (GEF) 2026 on Saturday in Egypt, El Hakim said businesses seeking to scale must establish proper cash flow management, clear processes and recruit capable employees.

“Running a company or starting a startup is super exciting, but building one that scales, that grows, and becomes sustainable, that’s an absolute different discipline,” he said.

He said a company could become constrained when routine decisions depended on the founder, creating a bottleneck that could limit growth.

“The most important is to be able to run decisions without going back to the founder. Because if this happens, you’re creating a bottleneck,” he said.

El Hakim also linked business sustainability to the way people and organisations provide support, arguing that genuine help should enable independence rather than create long-term reliance.

“If I am helping someone and he comes two years down the line to ask me for help, I didn’t do my job,” he said.

“The genuine help is to create independency rather than dependency,” he added.
