A 34-year-old Ugandan woman who travelled to Nigeria with members of her church for a religious gathering was arrested at Lagos airport with 87 wraps of cocaine concealed around her pelvic region, the anti-narcotics agency said Sunday.
Farida Nansubuga was intercepted on November 3 as she prepared to board a flight to Uganda at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
She had arrived in Nigeria on October 29 with members of her church for a prayer session at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

While the rest of the delegation returned to Uganda after the gathering, Nansubuga allegedly stayed behind to collect a drug consignment for a friend identified only as Joy, who lives in Uganda, the agency said.

NDLEA operatives intercepted her at the screening point of Terminal 2 during a joint operation with aviation security personnel.
A preliminary body search raised suspicion about a substance concealed around her pelvic region, prompting officers to take her to a private room for a more thorough examination.
They recovered 87 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.15 kilogrammes, strapped around her pelvic region and held in place beneath two layers of underwear, the agency said.

During questioning, Nansubuga allegedly told investigators that Joy had connected her to a contact in Nigeria who arranged for a vehicle to take her to a hotel on the morning of her departure.
A man at the hotel handed her the drugs and instructed her to conceal them beneath her clothing to evade airport security checks, she reportedly said.
She claimed no fixed payment had been agreed, but that she expected to receive at least $1,000 after delivering the consignment in Uganda, according to the NDLEA.
The arrest was among a series of drug seizures and operations across Nigeria announced by the agency, involving cocaine, opioids, cannabis and other illicit substances.
At the Lagos airport, officers also intercepted 750,000 tablets of tapentadol, an opioid painkiller, weighing 526 kilogrammes and valued by the agency at 900 million naira ($630,000).
The shipment arrived from Ahmedabad, India, on November 3 aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight and was declared as paracetamol tablets.
Officers kept the cargo under surveillance before conducting a joint examination with customs officials and other agencies on November 6. The tapentadol tablets were found in 10 of 11 cartons, while the remaining carton contained paracetamol, the NDLEA said.
