Patrice Motsepe, South Africa and Africa’s first black billionaire to be on the Forbes list has emerged as the new President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).i
Motsepe who is also currently Africa’s 9th richest person was confirmed in the 43rd Ordinary General Assembly of the organisation in Rabat, Morocco as he emerged unopposed after his closest oppositions stepped down to pave the way for him.
Backed by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, Motsepe emerged on the back of a disappointing three years by Madagascan, Ahmad Ahmad. Ahmad’s tenure was shrouded in litany of corruption allegations, which eventually led to his suspension.
Motsepe, 59, is a mining mogul and brother-in-law to South Africa’s current President, Cyril Ramaphosa.

He’s the owner of South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns which he led to local and continental dominance during his tenure as Chairman.
He has never had administrative experience at such a grand stage but has a rich business enterprise which many believe may boost CAF’s financial prospects.
