Kenyan Teenager Jailed Over School-Fire Deaths

A Kenyan teenager has been sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter in connection with a school-fire incident that claimed the lives of nine of her classmates.

The 18-year-old committed the crime in 2017, when she was 14 years old and in her first year of secondary school at Moi Girls School in Nairobi.

Before starting the fire in her cubicle, she had attempted suicide twice, according to the court.

According to local media, the parents and guardians of the girls who died in the school-fire stated the penalty was lenient but that they were delighted justice was delivered.
