The founder of the Africa International Housing Show has declared that Africa deserves a platform entirely dedicated to finding practical solutions to its housing challenges, as the event marked its 20th anniversary in Abuja.
Festus Adebayo, Chief Executive Officer of the Africa International Housing Show, said the vision that launched the event two decades ago was rooted in the belief that the continent required a focused platform to address its housing deficit.
“Today is more than opening of another conference. It is a celebration of a vision that began 20 years with a simple belief that Africa deserves a platform entirely dedicated to finding practical solutions to its housing challenges,” Adebayo said.
He said the event, which started with only 10 people, has grown into Africa’s largest housing and construction exhibition, featuring 350 companies from countries including Turkey, China and India.

“We believe that governments, private developers, financial institutions, researchers, manufacturers, international organisations, and development partners could achieve far more by working together than by working in isolation,” he said.
Adebayo also announced the launch of Housing TV Africa, the continent’s first dedicated housing television channel, describing it as a further step in advancing housing advocacy.
“We are pleased to record today that two years ago the government gave us a licence to own the first housing television in Africa. The television is called Housing TV Africa. I must let you know that we are live on Housing TV Africa and we are also live on News Central Television for this opening ceremony,” he said.
Adebayo, who described himself as a leading advocate of affordable housing in Nigeria, traced his advocacy journey to a housing programme he established on Africa Independent Television 25 years ago.
“We started the journey 20 years ago with faith, determination, and a commitment to unite the housing ecosystem,” he said.
