The Anambra State Police Command has said the ongoing impoundment of vehicles with tinted windows is part of a security operation aimed at addressing rising insecurity and preventing criminals from exploiting such vehicles.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the exercise is intended to verify the authenticity of tinted glass permits and enforce compliance with relevant vehicle regulations.
The operation targets vehicles with tinted windows regardless of whether owners present permits, along with unregistered vehicles and those with concealed, covered or defaced number plates.

Ikenga said the exercise is designed to identify forged or fraudulently obtained tinted-glass permits, enforce compliance with vehicle registration and number-plate regulations, and prevent criminals from using such vehicles to evade identification.
He acknowledged that the exercise may cause temporary inconvenience to motorists but said it had become necessary in view of prevailing security challenges and the increasing use of tinted vehicles by criminal elements.
Residents were urged by the police to be understanding, patient, and cooperative, and the police reassured them that the operation is being carried out to protect property, save lives, and improve public safety throughout the state.
