The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ikeje Asogwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.
The result was announced on Sunday at the INEC office in Nsukka by the Returning Officer, Professor Christian Ezeibe. He confirmed that Asogwa secured 162,360 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr Nestor Ezeme, who polled 9,299 votes.
Professor Ezeibe formally presented the figures at the collation centre, effectively confirming APC’s dominance in the contest following the completion of collation across the six local government areas in the senatorial district.
Reacting to the outcome, the Director of Media and Strategy Communication for the Ikeje Asogwa Campaign Organisation, Samson Ezea, described the result as a validation of the candidate’s grassroots strength and acceptance across the district.

According to Ezea, the victory reflects “a clear reflection of the widespread support enjoyed by the APC candidate across the six local government areas in the Enugu North Senatorial District.”
The campaign team maintained that the margin of victory demonstrates consistent voter alignment with Asogwa’s campaign messaging and on-the-ground political structure.
The by-election outcome consolidates APC’s position in the district, while also highlighting the significant gap between both leading parties in the final tally. The results are expected to shape post-election political alignments and strategic positioning within Enugu State’s broader electoral landscape.
With INEC’s declaration, attention now shifts to post-election reactions from stakeholders across the political divide, as well as potential implications for future electoral contests in the region.
