The residents of the Gurbi community in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have prevented bandits from entering their homes.
A resident of the town, who requested to be anonymous, said the attackers arrived earlier in the evening but were initially unable to enter the town as members of the community gathered to protect their village. He said that as the attackers could not enter the village, they faced the fleeing residents, whom they shot at close range, killing over 10 people.
“As I speak to you now, there are more than 10 corpses in the Nagodi area, which is a village in front of Gurbi. After they left, the dead bodies were transported back to Gurbi,” he said.
The resident further lamented that they had alerted the security when they received intelligence of the attack, but received no response until after the unsuccessful attack.
“We had earlier alerted security operatives when we heard a rumour of the attack, but they did not respond until after our people were killed. Only then did they arrive and begin evacuating the bodies,” he stated.

Another source close to the Gurbi community leader’s palace confirmed that the attackers could not enter the village. The source also revealed that the attackers succeeded in attacking fleeing residents.
Kankara has been at the centre of a renewed bandit attack in Katsina State. Just three days ago, bandits attacked Zangon Kankara, where they set two houses and a car ablaze and also abducted two people.
However, no official statement had been received from the police or the office of the state commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu.
