United Nigeria Airlines has suspended its flights to and from Benin Airport after the Nigerian Airports Authority shut down the airport’s runway following an aircraft excursion.
The airline announced the temporary suspension in a statement on Thursday, saying operations on the route would resume only after the runway is declared safe and reopened.
The runway was closed earlier in the day after an aircraft skidded off the runway upon landing, forcing aviation authorities to suspend flight operations while recovery work and safety assessments are carried out.
In the statement, the airline said the disruption was necessitated by the runway closure.
“We wish to inform our valued passengers and the general public that, due to the closure of the runway by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as a result of an excursion, all our flights to and from Benin Airport have been cancelled pending its reopening,” the airline said.
United Nigeria apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and urged those affected to reach out to its customer service team for rebooking and travel support.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may have caused. All passengers affected by this development are advised to contact our customer service for further information and any assistance needed with rebooking.
“We are open to offering any needed assistance because the welfare of our passengers is our priority,” the statement added.
The airline also appealed for understanding as efforts continue to restore normal flight operations.
“We plead for your understanding at this time and sincerely apologise again for any inconvenience this may have caused. We appreciate your patience and are immensely grateful for your trust in United Nigeria Airlines,” it said.
