AFC Bournemouth have dropped defender Alex Jimenez from their squad and opened an internal investigation over alleged social media activity involving the player.
The Premier League side confirmed on Friday that the 21-year-old right-back would not travel with the team for Saturday’s league clash against Fulham FC as concerns continue to grow around posts reportedly linked to the player online.
In an official statement, Bournemouth said the club was aware of “posts circulating on social media involving right-back Alex Jimenez” and noted that it understood “the seriousness of the matter.” The club added that the issue is “currently being investigated.”
Bournemouth also confirmed that Jimenez would not be available for selection against Fulham while the process continues, adding that no further comments would be made at this stage.
The development has placed fresh attention on the young Spaniard, who only recently secured a permanent move to the Vitality Stadium after initially joining the club on loan from AC Milan. Bournemouth completed the permanent signing in February following a string of impressive performances during the season.

Jimenez has featured prominently for the Cherries this campaign, making 32 appearances across competitions and establishing himself as an important option in defence. His energy, attacking runs, and versatility have made him one of the club’s standout young players during a season that has exceeded expectations.
The timing of the controversy also comes at a critical stage of Bournemouth’s campaign. The club currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and remains firmly in contention for European qualification for the first time in their history.
Managerial focus is now likely to shift toward maintaining momentum on the pitch while the club handles the off-field matter internally.
With only a handful of matches remaining in the season, Bournemouth face growing pressure to keep their European hopes alive despite the distraction surrounding one of their regular starters.
Neither Jimenez nor his representatives have publicly responded to the allegations linked to the social media posts.
