Great Britain have secured their place in the Davis Cup Finals after defeating Ecuador 3-0 in London, while Germany have also advanced to the final eight after US Open champion Alexander Zverev guided his team past Croatia.
Britain completed their victory on Sunday through Henry Patten and Neal Skupski, who defeated Ecuador’s Diego Hidalgo and Gonzalo Escobar 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles match.
The British pair took control early, earning the only break of serve in the opening set before maintaining their advantage in the second. They moved ahead in the ninth game and closed out the match on serve to seal a comfortable win for the 10-time Davis Cup champions.

“We’re feeling great,” Patten said during the on-court interview. “We’re very, very happy to get it done on the first match.”
The doubles success followed strong performances in Saturday’s singles matches, where Davis Cup debutant Toby Samuel defeated Andres Andrade before Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery overcame Alvaro Guillen Meza to put Britain in a commanding position.
In Halle, Germany’s Zverev shifted his focus from celebrating his second Grand Slam title to leading his country into the Davis Cup Finals.
The world number two defeated Croatia’s Dino Prizmic 6-2, 6-4 in 77 minutes to secure Germany’s qualification. Zverev broke the 21-year-old three times and did not face a single break point.

The 29-year-old had earlier helped Germany start the tie strongly with a straight-sets victory over Matej Dodig on Saturday. Croatia responded through Prizmic’s win, but Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz delivered the decisive doubles victory to send Germany through.
Spain are also close to securing their place after taking a 2-0 lead over hosts Chile in Santiago. Daniel Merida and Rafael Jodar won the opening singles matches, leaving Spain needing one more victory to complete the tie.
The Davis Cup Finals, featuring the final eight teams, will take place in Bologna from November 24 to 29. Britain and Germany will join defending champions Italy, along with the Czech Republic, South Korea, Austria and Canada, in the tournament.
