Businessman Alleges ₦400 Million PFIPC Contract Payment

A businessman, Gbenga Collins, has alleged before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) that he paid ₦400 million to the council’s embattled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to facilitate the award of a contract.

Appearing before the committee on Wednesday, Collins said he was officially received by Adeyemi in Abuja before being handed a contract award letter, scope of work and an agreement authorising his company to renovate and furnish the Director-General’s official residence.

According to Collins, Adeyemi requested the ₦400 million payment as proof of his company’s financial capacity and to fast-track mobilisation for the project.

Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi disclosed that Adeyemi had been absent from the hearings because he is in police custody and is also under investigation by anti-corruption agencies.

He added that the committee intends to meet him privately as part of its inquiry.

The panel also summoned the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps over official government number plates allegedly used on vehicles linked to the disputed council.

The committee is investigating the legality of the PFIPC’s establishment, its inclusion in the 2026 Appropriation Act and the alleged allocation of about ₦1.3 billion, none of which the Budget Office says has been released.
