The Canadian government has released 10 key recommendations to help travellers, immigrants and prospective citizens submit complete applications and avoid common mistakes that could delay processing.
The guidance, published on the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) X account on Saturday, encourages applicants to complete and submit their applications online, noting that the digital system helps identify missing information before submission.
According to the Canadian government, applicants should answer every question on the application form and write “N/A” (Not Applicable) where a question does not apply.
Officials also advised applicants to use the official document checklist provided for each immigration programme to ensure all required documents are included.
The government stressed that documents not written in English or French must be translated by a certified translator before submission.
Applicants were further reminded to submit only the required documents and avoid sending original copies unless specifically requested.
The guidance also highlighted the importance of meeting Canada’s passport photo specifications, urging applicants to verify that their photographs comply with the required standards before submitting their applications.
In addition, the government said applicants must declare all family members in their applications, even if those relatives are not travelling or immigrating to Canada.
Applicants were also urged to provide accurate contact details, including an active email address and complete mailing address, to ensure they receive important updates on their applications.
The Canadian government further advised applicants to sign and date all required documents, pay the correct application fees using approved payment methods, and respond promptly to any requests for additional information before the specified deadline.
According to the authorities, following these recommendations will help applicants avoid common errors, improve the quality of their submissions and support faster processing of immigration, travel and citizenship applications.
Canada’s 10 Tips For Applicants

Applying online helps ensure your application is complete before you submit it.
2. Answer every question.
