English Premier League side Chelsea are facing a major squad clear-out, with the club needing to find new teams for 16 players before the summer transfer window closes.

The Blues currently have 41 senior players in their squad, creating a major challenge for new head coach Xabi Alonso, who is expected to work with a group of around 25 players for the new season.

With just 25 days left before the transfer deadline, Chelsea must speed up efforts to reduce their squad size through permanent transfers and loan deals.

The situation has become more complicated after FIFA introduced new rules preventing clubs from using “bomb squads” to handle unwanted players.

Previously, clubs could exclude players from first-team plans by sending them to train separately or with youth teams if they failed to secure moves.

However, Chelsea will now need to find proper solutions for players who are not part of Alonso’s plans.

The club’s large squad has been a major talking point in recent transfer windows, with Chelsea relying heavily on player sales and loan moves to manage their numbers.

Alonso now faces difficult decisions as he prepares for his first season at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea’s recruitment team works to secure exits before the deadline.

With 16 players needing new destinations, the Premier League giants are racing against time to build a more manageable squad for the upcoming campaign.
