Chinese emergency crews recovered 30 more bodies from a massive landslide in southwestern China, raising the total death toll to 41.

Authorities in Chongqing’s Pengshui County confirmed the updated casualty figure late Tuesday following DNA testing and formal identification of remains.

The July 17 disaster swept away multiple residential buildings situated along a riverbank at the base of a mountain.

Crews previously reported finding no signs of life while searching for 50 missing residents under the debris.

This disaster occurred less than two weeks after a separate landslide in northwestern Gansu province buried 33 people and killed 21.
