Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Tuesday a work-free day for public servants to enable them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the state’s governorship election.

The directive, announced in a statement on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, applies to all public servants, including local government workers and staff of tertiary institutions.

According to a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, the work-free day is intended to allow workers to fulfil their civic responsibility before the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The state government said the decision was targeted at “enabling public servants to perform their civic obligations ahead of the forthcoming governorship election and future elections in the state.”

Workers in essential services, including healthcare and security, were advised to make internal arrangements to ensure their duties are not disrupted.

Adeleke also urged all registered voters, especially those yet to collect their PVCs, to do so without delay.

“I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay. Your vote is your power. Your voter’s card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box,” the governor said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the election.

Adeleke, of the Accord Party, is seeking re-election against major contenders, including Bola Oyebamiji of the APC and Najeem Salaam of the ADC. The PDP and Labour Party are not fielding candidates in the poll.
