Atiku Declares No Apology for Third-Term Block

Former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he offers no apology for frustrating former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term bid, choosing the Nigerian Constitution over personal loyalty.

Atiku issued a statement on Saturday, August 1, through his media aide Phrank Shaibu after Obasanjo recently called selecting Atiku as his 1999 running mate the biggest mistake of his presidency.

The former Nigerian vice-president accused his former boss of attempting to rewrite history out of lingering bitterness from the constitutional battle.

He noted that he supported Obasanjo financially and politically after his release from prison, urging the former president to focus on Nigeria’s economic challenges rather than recycling decades-old grudges ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also highlighted praise from World Trade Organisation Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala regarding his leadership of the administration’s economic team, urging Obasanjo to offer solutions to Nigeria’s current economic struggles rather than recycling old grudges ahead of the 2027 elections.
