The Delta State Police Command has recovered a locally made firearm following an alleged attack by two armed robbers on a man in Effurun.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Delta Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe said the robbery occurred on September 4 in the Charlisco area along NPA Express Road in Effurun.

Edafe said two masked men armed with a locally made shotgun allegedly broke into the residence of a 48-year-old man at about 5:30 a.m.

The victim reportedly confronted one of the suspects and struggled with him over the firearm, causing the gun to break.

The second suspect allegedly struck the victim on the forehead before the two men fled the scene, abandoning the firearm.

Police said the incident was reported at the Ekpan Division at about 6:14 a.m., after which the Divisional Police Officer deployed operatives to the scene.

The broken locally made firearm was recovered, while the victim was referred to a hospital for treatment.

Police launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ubulu-Uku arrested a woman identified as Joy Anthony over alleged drug peddling.

The police said the operatives acted on intelligence and carried out a covert operation in Agbor on September 6.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the suspect’s residence in Agbor-Obi, where police said quantities of Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and substances suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel Erale, commended the 48-year-old robbery victim for confronting the suspected armed robbers and assured him that the fleeing suspects would be tracked down and arrested.

The police also urged members of the public with information that could assist ongoing investigations or efforts to combat crime to contact the nearest police station or the Delta State Police Command.
