Edo Schools to Reopen Monday 

The Edo State Government has directed that schools earlier shut down over security concerns will reopen on Monday, June 15, 2026, following a fresh review of the situation in affected communities.

The directive was issued in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere, on Thursday.

Schools, including Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School and Makeke Secondary School in Akoko Edo, Edo North, were earlier closed after a security alert was raised over possible attacks by armed groups.

The government said the decision to reopen the schools followed consultations with security agencies and stakeholders, which indicated improved safety conditions in the affected areas.

It stated that additional security deployments and other protective measures had been implemented to safeguard students, teachers and school personnel.

According to the circular, authorities expressed confidence that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the safe resumption of academic activities across the affected schools.

School administrators and proprietors were asked to prepare for the return of students and staff and to stay in close coordination with security agencies and community leaders to sustain safety.

“The government is satisfied that the necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of learners, teachers and other school personnel and the schools should be re-opened on Monday June 15.

“Consequently, all public and private schools affected by the earlier closure order have been directed to resume normal academic and administrative activities from June 15. 

“School heads, proprietors and education authorities were instructed to make adequate preparations for the safe return of students and staff, while maintaining close collaboration with security agencies, community leaders and government officials to sustain a secure learning environment,” the circular stated.

The government also assured parents and guardians that monitoring mechanisms would remain in place and urged them to ensure their children return to school as scheduled.

The earlier closure followed a security alert from the Department of State Services, which reportedly warned security agencies of a planned mass abduction of students in  Edo state.
