The mother of slain 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Ogidi, who was killed by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State, has appealed to Nigerians and the government to ensure those responsible for his death are brought to justice.
Speaking to News Central, she was visibly distraught and in tears, saying her son had made many promises to her while he was alive.
“I am not fine. My child, who made many promises, is no more. When he was alive, he would say, ‘My father is dead. Look at me. You will see my father in me. Don’t worry, when my music is released, I will take you all over the world. You are my senior wife’,” she recalled.
“…make Nigerians no leave me like this…. I’m in pain…”

“All the promises he made me have vanished. Now it is finished. They told me he is dead, and they brought his corpse to me. I don’t know what to do. Nigerians, please help me. Help me avenge my son’s death. I am a poor widow. Bring the perpetrators to book. Please don’t leave me like this.”
In another interview with Punch, she said Ogidi was the second son she had lost to extrajudicial killings. She disclosed that one of her sons was arrested at his home in 2022 and later killed, with the police claiming he died during an exchange of gunfire.

Nuhu Usman, a police officer, killed Ogidi on April 26, 2026, when operatives of the Effurun Area Command responded to credible information from Benin Motor Park along the Warri–Sapele Expressway after the musician was apprehended by members of a transport union while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
Ogidi’s extrajudicial killing has triggered outrage, and Usman has been transferred to the Force headquarters in Abuja. Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, condemned Ogidi’s killing on Wednesday, describing it as “barbaric” and a “grave violation of the rule of law”.
