Egypt Bus Crash Kills 16, Injures 28

A bus crash in Egypt’s eastern Sinai Peninsula on Wednesday killed 16 people and left 28 others injured, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

The crash occurred on the road linking the popular tourist towns of Dahab and Nuweiba on the eastern coast of South Sinai, the ministry said.

Twenty ambulances were dispatched to the scene, while the injured were taken for medical treatment. Authorities have not disclosed what caused the crash.

The area is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its marine biodiversity, scenic landscapes and mountain hiking trails.

Road accidents are common in Egypt and are often attributed to reckless driving, poorly maintained vehicles and inconsistent enforcement of traffic laws.

Nearly 6,000 people were killed in road accidents across Egypt last year, according to the country’s state statistics agency.
