Oluwole Oluyede, an Ekiti State governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged intimidation of opposition party members in the state.
Oluyede, in an interview with Arise News, alleged that a government official harassed residents while they were collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), an incident he said led to chaos on June 3.
“Three days ago or so, on June 3rd, there was information that one government agent, one government official, went to harass people where they were trying to collect their PVCs. That led to a fracas. It led to a fracas. I got to hear about it,” he said.
“In politics, things like this — scuffles and things — happen. It came to my knowledge, and I said, ‘Go to the police station and report.’ Yeah, they actually took the victims and people who were harassed.”

The aspirant also alleged that the Ekiti State Deputy Governor ordered the arrest of opposition members, including his cousin.
“It is not an allegation. It is the truth, because I was there actually, went to the police station. Why would she be in the police station? Why should she be the one giving orders? And I did follow it up, and those are parts of what we know and we see,” he added.
He further claimed that several opposition members have been harassed and intimidated, including himself and others in his party.
“Okay, and there is an operative list of people who have been harassed. Everybody is being harassed,” he said.
“The party chairman in my ward was arrested this morning, early this morning at about 12 a.m. They went to his house, kicked his door open and picked him up. Another person who is a member of my ward, they were picked away by policemen. They were wearing police uniform supposedly.”
