Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Dr Nkiruka Onyejeocha, has announced her intention to return to the House of Representatives for a fifth term.

Onyejeocha also expressed interest in seeking the APC ticket for the 2027 election. She disclosed this to Isuikwuato/Umunneochi constituents in Abia State. She served four terms (2007–2023) in the lower chamber and recently resigned her ministerial appointment following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that public office holders aspiring to elective positions should step down.

Speaking on Friday at a mass rally in Isuochi community, she said, “I will soon make a formal declaration” of her ambition. Her bid for a fifth term in 2023 was unsuccessful, with Labour Party rival Hon. Amobi Ogah declared the winner. Though Tinubu later appointed her minister.

The Umunneochi Traditional Rulers Council, led by Eze Franklin Ohalezim, described her as “an illustrious daughter and a woman of proven capacity.” They conferred traditional titles on her and President Tinubu, ‘Anyanwu Na-enye Ihie Umunneochi’ on Onyejeocha and ‘Ike Oha Umunneochi’ on the President.

Abia APC Chairman Hon. Chijioke Chukwu called Onyejeocha “a committed party member and effective lawmaker who deserves re-election.”

In her remarks, Onyejeocha appreciated the party’s support, noting that if supporters insist on buying her nomination forms, the funds would be channelled into “her annual free medical outreach.” She pledged to work for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing federal intervention on erosion in Isuikwuato, an issue she raised on the House floor.

She also recalled sponsoring a bill seeking constitutional roles for traditional rulers, saying her return would ensure continuity of legislative and developmental efforts.
