Explosions have been reported near Iran’s key oil hub of Kharg Island in the Gulf, days after fighting resumed between Tehran and Washington, increasing tensions in a conflict that has now entered its sixth month.
Iranian media outlets reported the blasts on Saturday, with Fars news agency saying its correspondent heard several explosions in the area. The agency added that no visible smoke followed.
The SNN news agency, however, reported that “an Iranian tanker was targeted by the US” near Kharg Island, though it did not provide further details or evidence to support the claim.
There has been no immediate confirmation or comment from either US or Iranian officials regarding the reported explosions.
The latest incident comes after renewed hostilities between the two countries began last Sunday, when the United States launched attacks on Iranian targets. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes against American positions across the Middle East.
Iran’s military said on Thursday that it had carried out attacks on US military bases in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, describing the action as retaliation for civilian deaths at a wedding that it blamed on Washington.
The escalation has also intensified tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. Iran has moved to restrict maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, while Washington has maintained a counter-blockade targeting Iranian ports.
Kharg Island remains a critical part of Iran’s energy infrastructure, serving as the country’s largest oil export terminal and a major point for crude shipments to international markets.
