Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, said police operatives responded immediately after receiving reports of the attack.

According to him, investigations are ongoing, while security personnel have launched a manhunt for those responsible in an effort to determine the motive behind the assault.

Ukandu also disclosed that the assailants carted away the students’ personal belongings before fleeing the scene.

“That incident occurred at about 2:am on Tuesday this week and our people were called but before we could respond, the hoodlums had ran away.

“The hoodlums basically came to steal and they beat up the students and made away with their belongings including phones, power banks, laptops and other items.

“Our people are already investigating the incident. The school is very porous and has no fence, you can see it if you go there.

” From what I heard, the school has no even normal security guard (s). But we are on the matter and investigation is ongoing”, he stated.

Students who spoke on condition of anonymity said many residents of the hostel have begun leaving the facility following the attack, citing fears for their safety and concerns about a possible recurrence of the incident.

“People are parking out of this hostel. See what we are facing in Nigeria. Our hostel was attacked by gunmen and they injured many students in the hostel and stole their belongings.

“Some of the victims are receiving treatment in the General Hospital here in the local government while others are receiving treatment in a private hospital in the local government

“So, students are parking out of the hostel because of this incident, we are in fears”, the students said.
