Hundreds Flee Devastating Spanish Wildfire

A devastating wildfire north of Madrid forced approximately 700 residents to evacuate on Sunday after scorching roughly 13,000 hectares of land.

Around 300 firefighters, supported by 26 water-dropping aircraft, battled the blaze in Guadalajara province.

Regional authorities described the fire as exceptionally difficult because it tears through the rugged, forested terrain of the Sierra Norte Natural Park.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated on X that the government is closely monitoring the crisis and thanked crews for working tirelessly to protect lives.

The inferno directly threatens an ecological reserve that protects endangered species, including wolves, eagles, and butterflies.

Simultaneously, emergency services in the northeastern region of Aragon managed to slow another wildfire near Zaragoza that had forced 1,000 people to flee.

While officials report no casualties from either incident, scientists emphasise that human-driven climate change continues to fuel these increasingly frequent and intense heatwaves across the country.
