The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents of Enugu North Senatorial District that Saturday’s by-election will be credible.
The Head of Department, Voter Education, INEC Enugu, Chuka Achumie, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the commission has cleared seven candidates from different political parties to contest in the election.
The by-election will be conducted to fill the vacant Enugu North Senatorial seat following the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who previously represented the constituency.
The poll will take place across the six local government areas in the senatorial district, namely Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani.

According to Achumie, INEC has completed necessary preparations and remains committed to delivering a transparent and credible electoral process.
He said, “If we are not prepared to conduct free and credible elections, we will not conduct them.”
Achumie added that arrangements for the exercise were progressing smoothly, with no major challenges currently facing the commission.
He also urged registered voters in the district to turn out and exercise their civic responsibility.
The INEC official further assured candidates that the commission would give a level playing field during the election.
He added that the distribution of sensitive election materials is expected to commence on Thursday ahead of the poll.
