Kenyan middle-distance star Faith Kipyegon ended her racing season early due to a persistent hamstring injury, forcing her to withdraw from next month’s inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Hungary.
The three-time Olympic and four-time world 1,500m champion announced on social media that her recovery requires more time than expected.
As athletes, we ask a lot from our bodies. There is always a thin line between being fit and the risk of injury.

The 32-year-old athlete has struggled with the injury since late May, affecting her performance in two major July events.
She placed third in the women’s mile in Eugene, Oregon, and later finished fourth in the 3,000m at the Monaco Diamond League.
Her absence removes one of track and field’s biggest stars from the upcoming Budapest event, which runs from September 11-13.

The new championship brings together nearly 400 elite athletes and features a $10 million total prize purse.
