Former President Goodluck Jonathan will be screened as the sole presidential aspirant of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday, a party source has confirmed.
The PDP faction, led by Kabiru Turaki, said in a statement on Sunday that screening of all hopefuls would hold at 10 am ahead of its forthcoming primaries.
About 2,122 state house of assembly, 748 house of representatives, 198 senatorial, 112 governorship and one presidential hopeful are expected to be screened, according to the statement.
The party did not disclose the identity of the lone presidential aspirant. Ini Ememobong, the party’s spokesperson, could not be reached for comment.
However, a source within the party confirmed to TheCable that Jonathan is the sole presidential aspirant to be screened.

A 14-member screening committee has been constituted for the exercise. Its members include former Vice-President Namadi Sambo; Jonah Jang, former governor of Plateau; and Tom Ikimi, former minister of foreign affairs.
Other committee members are Olabode George, Babangida Aliyu, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenih, Abdul Bulama, Esther Uduehi, Tony Aziegbemi, Sunday Solari and Anicho Okoro, who will serve as administrative secretary.
The committee list was approved by the national executive committee at its 104th meeting, the statement said.
“This publication is in accordance with the party’s guidelines and timetable for the conduct of the 2027 general election,” the statement added.
Calls for Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidency intensified on May 7 when a group of youths under the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan held a solidarity rally at his residence in Abuja, urging him to run.
The former president has said he would consult widely before deciding on his next move.
