The company also thanked customers for their patience while its technical teams worked to restore electricity.

“We truly appreciate your patience and support as our teams worked to restore service,” the statement added.

The restoration comes hours after Kenya Power announced that a widespread outage had affected customers in Nairobi, the Coast region, Mt. Kenya and parts of the Central Rift.

In an earlier statement issued at 9:05 pm on Wednesday, the utility said electricity supply had remained stable in parts of the North Rift and Western regions despite the disruption.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers that we are experiencing a widespread power outage affecting customers in Nairobi, Coast, Mt. Kenya and parts of Central Rift. However, parts of North Rift and Western regions are on supply,” the company said.

Kenya Power said its technical teams were deployed immediately to identify the cause of the outage and restore power as quickly as possible.

While the company has confirmed that electricity has now been restored across all affected areas, it has not disclosed the cause of the blackout.

The outage prompted concern after many users reported power cuts across different parts of the country on social media before Kenya Power confirmed the incident.
