The New York Knicks have taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals after a nail-biting 105-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.

Jalen Brunson delivered the game-winning free throw in the dying seconds, holding off a furious Spurs rally, and the result puts New York on the brink of their first championship since 1973.

San Antonio’s star, Victor Wembanyama, had a strong second half, scoring 22 of his 29 points to help the Spurs erase a 14-point deficit with a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter. Wembanyama’s three-point play with 57.3 seconds left briefly gave the Spurs their first lead since the second quarter at 104-102. However, Brunson quickly responded, tying the game before being fouled and converting a crucial free throw to put the Knicks ahead

Karl-Anthony Towns led the Knicks with 21 points and 13 rebounds, limiting Wembanyama’s comfort on the floor and forcing turnovers in critical moments.

Supporting Brunson, Mikal Bridges scored 20 points, OG Anunoby contributed 17, and Landry Shamet added 13 off the bench.

For San Antonio, De’Aaron Fox scored 20 points, while Wembanyama also grabbed nine rebounds, blocked four shots, and recorded two steals. Despite their late surge, the Spurs could not capitalise on their final possession, as Wembanyama missed a potential game-winner with just two seconds remaining.

The Knicks’ victory extends their playoff winning streak to 13 games, the second-longest in postseason history.

The series now shifts to New York for games three and four, where Madison Square Garden will host the team’s potential title-clinching matches.

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend Monday’s game, adding to the high-profile atmosphere.
