The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man, Auwal Ibrahim, before a Nigerian High Court over allegations that he impersonated social media influencer Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, to defraud members of the public of more than N5.3 million.

Ibrahim was arraigned before Justice M.A. Madugu on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.

The EFCC said the alleged offences contravened provisions of the Penal Code.

Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following his plea, prosecuting counsel Elizabeth Alabi urged the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in a correctional facility.

“Having pleaded not guilty, we shall be asking for a date to come and prove our case and we shall urge the court to remand the defendant in a Correctional Centre,” she said.

Defence counsel M.M. Bali told the court that he had not yet filed a bail application and requested a short adjournment to enable him do so.

Justice Madugu subsequently ordered that Ibrahim be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until July 27 for the hearing of his bail application.

The EFCC said the alleged accomplice, Malam Yahaya Babangida, remains at large.
