Mbappe said he was drawn to the chance to help On create something new.

“From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game.”

“I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create, push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football,” he said.

“We have a shared dream, and this is only the beginning,” he added.

On has also appointed France football legend Thierry Henry as its football director. Henry won the 1998 World Cup with France and will help lead the company’s expansion into football.

Founded in 2010, On has mainly focused on running and tennis footwear. The Zurich-based company also counts tennis great Roger Federer its a shareholder.

Federer also left Nike late in his playing career to join On. Mbappe’s move therefore links two major sporting stars with On as the brand expands beyond its traditional markets.
