Belgian 25th seed Elise Mertens pulled off a major upset on Court One by defeating former champion Elena Rybakina 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 on Saturday.
The shocking third-round loss dashes Rybakina’s hopes of capturing her second All England Club title following her Australian Open victory in January.
The world number two has now exited early in consecutive Grand Slams, having also dropped out in the second round of the recent French Open.
Despite the disappointing performance, Rybakina refuses to let the loss derail the rest of her season.
She acknowledged her disappointment but maintained perspective, stating that losing is part of the game and that she will move past the defeat within a couple of days.

The Kazakhstani star plans to rest before thoroughly analysing her current form to fix what is not working ahead of the upcoming hard-court swing.
Meanwhile, Mertens celebrates one of the most memorable wins of her career.
The 30-year-old two-time Wimbledon doubles champion overcame mixed feelings about her recent grass-court performances to grow in confidence throughout the match.
Mertens now advances to the round of 16 for the fourth time in her career, where she will face Czech 21st seed Marie Bouzkova.
