The Nigerian Army has announced cash rewards for credible information leading to the arrest of senior leaders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), following an intelligence breakthrough during recent operations in Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the wanted commanders were identified after troops recovered electronic devices and other intelligence materials during successful offensives against the terrorist group.
According to Goni, forensic analysis of the recovered devices, including a camcorder used by ISWAP fighters to record propaganda videos and operational activities, generated actionable intelligence that exposed the identities and locations of several senior commanders.
“Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another significant breakthrough following recent successful offensive operations against ISWAP/ISIS terrorists in the Lake Chad region of Northern Borno State,” he said.
The military identified the wanted commanders as Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa, described as the Wali (Governor) of ISWAP; his deputy, Amirul Jaish Muhammad Jidda, also known as “The One-Handed Man”; and Hamad Abu Hanifa, identified as the group’s Amirul-Fiya.
Goni said the commanders operate within the Mangari-Metele-Dogon Chukun axis along the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin in Abadam and Kukawa Local Government Areas of Borno State.
According to Goni, Abu Musa remains the military’s most wanted ISWAP leader in the Lake Chad Basin.
“The military will offer a substantial financial reward to any individual whose credible and actionable information directly leads to his arrest.”
The military assured potential informants that all information received would be handled confidentially and that their identities would be protected.
Goni urged members of the public to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations by providing credible intelligence that could assist security agencies in locating and apprehending the suspects.
The military asked anyone with useful information to report through established security channels or via 0708 498 8859, warning residents not to confront or attempt to arrest the suspects themselves.
The announcement follows a series of intensified military operations targeting ISWAP strongholds in the Lake Chad region, where troops have continued efforts to dismantle terrorist camps, disrupt logistics networks and eliminate senior commanders.
