Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of illicit drug substances and ammunition concealed in cartons containing cassava granules, commonly referred to as “garri”, palm oil, and clothes in different operations across Nigeria.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the agency also destroyed 65,000 kilograms of skunk in different anti-narcotics operations across the country.
In one of the operations, 35-year-old Abdullahi Hassan was caught conveying 1,989 rounds of RLA 7.62mm concealed in fresh white cassava granules, locally known as garri. Babafemi disclosed that Hassan and the exhibit have since been transferred to another security agency for further investigation.
NDLEA operatives also recovered 181kg of skunk from Aliyu Sani during an operation in the Ogere area of Ogun State on Wednesday.
A 27-year-old suspect was arrested with 105,850 pills of opioids, including tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5, along Zaki-Biam Road in Wukari LGA, Taraba State, the following day.
