Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer faces another spell on the sidelines after tearing a tendon in his right foot during Bayern Munich’s 2-1 victory over Mainz on Saturday.
The German champions confirmed the injury on Sunday, saying the captain will be out for now.
While Bayern refrained from setting a definitive timeline for his recovery, German media outlets report that the keeper will miss at least two months of action.
The injury marred an otherwise historic appearance for Neuer, who became the oldest player in Bayern’s Bundesliga history at 40 years and 225 days during his 550th league match.

This latest setback compounds Bayern’s growing list of absentees, joining long-term casualties Jamal Musiala, Luis Diaz, Ismael Saibari, and Serge Gnabry, as well as coach Vincent Kompany, who is currently recovering from an illness.
Despite losing their primary goalkeeper, Bayern retain strong cover between the posts in Jonas Urbig, who recently earned a call-up to Julian Nagelsmann’s national team.
Neuer, a two-time Champions League winner who has already missed five matches this season, previously indicated that this campaign will likely be his final one.
