The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for sustained progress and continued nation-building.

In an Independence Day message shared on Thursday, JAMB reflected on Nigeria’s transformation since independence, highlighting the role of technology in changing various aspects of national life.

The board cited its transition from pen-and-paper examinations to computer-based testing as an example of the changes that have accompanied Nigeria’s development over the years.

JAMB said the country’s Independence Day provided an opportunity to recognise its achievements while looking ahead to future possibilities.

“From pen and paper to keyboards and screens, Nigeria has evolved, and JAMB has evolved with her,” the board said.

“As we celebrate another year of independence, we honour how far we’ve come and look ahead to all that is still possible,” it added.

The board congratulated Nigerians and wished them a happy Independence Day.

Similarly, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede said in a statement on X( formerly Twitter) that Nigeria had made considerable progress in nation-building since gaining independence, noting that the country’s independence had provided citizens with liberty and self-determination.

Olukoyede said the country’s ongoing development efforts represented important building blocks towards achieving the Nigeria citizens desire.

“At 66, Nigeria has come a long way. Independence has offered us liberty and self-determination. We are also making considerable progress in nation building,” he said.

“All these efforts are significant. They are the building blocks of the greater nation we desire,” he said.

He, however, called for reforms to be accompanied by a strong commitment to fighting corruption, warning that corrupt practices could undermine the progress made through national development initiatives.

The EFCC chairman said sustained progress required Nigerians to deliberately reject compromises that could weaken the country’s development efforts.

“Let’s therefore couple all our reform-focussed initiatives with zero tolerance for corruption. We cannot be building and allow corrupt practices vitiate our efforts,” he said.

“Progress only comes with purposeful rejection of compromises. Nigeria will surely get better!” Olukoyede said.

He expressed confidence that Nigeria would continue to improve if citizens and institutions remained committed to purposeful nation-building and the fight against corruption.
