Nigeria and Brazil have signed a major deal to improve livestock development in Nigeria through modern farming methods.
This agreement was signed at ExpoZebu 2026, which is taking place in Uberaba, MG, Brazil. The event focuses on livestock production and global food security.
According to News Central’s correspondent, Dashen Usman, Nigeria was the only country that signed that type of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the event.
She explained that the deal would facilitate knowledge exchange between Nigeria and Brazil.
“So the idea is simple, but really powerful. You take what Brazil has mastered in tropical livestock farming and make it practical and accessible for local farmers in Nigeria. So it’s going to be built as a technology and a training centre at the same time,” said Usman.

“There will be dedicated sections for both beef and dairy production, where farmers can see how things are done from breeding to fattening of the cow and also to milk production. So, you know, instead of theory, this is a learning-by-doing kind of hub. And a big part of the model is the use of tools like a fixed-time artificial insemination.”
She added that through this partnership, Nigerian farmers will learn to improve herd quality, resulting in increased meat and milk production.
“So farmers will help improve the herd quality in Nigeria quickly and efficiently, while also, pasture rotation keeps the land productive without actually degrading it. So training is actually really a major step, a heartbeat here in the project. So the goal is practical, but also long-term, which is actually good for food security in Nigeria,” Usman added.
“Increase the meat and milk production in a sustainable way, introduce stronger heat-adaptive cattle genetics from Brazil here in Nigeria, and also, you know, it doubles as a business and innovation hub where Brazilian companies can connect with other African markets, basically.”
