The Nigerian government has congratulated Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, on his electoral victory ahead of his inauguration on August 7.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X (formerly Twitter), Nigeria described the election outcome as reflecting the will of the Colombian people and expressed its readiness to work with the incoming administration.
The statement, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Nigeria looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Colombia in areas of mutual interest.

The ministry said both countries share a strong commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development, adding that Nigeria was committed to deepening cooperation in trade, investment, security and South-South relations.
The Nigerian government expressed confidence that the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Colombia would continue to grow under de la Espriella’s leadership for the benefit of both countries. It also wished the President-elect success as he prepares to assume office and expressed optimism that his administration would promote peace, progress and prosperity for Colombians.
De la Espriella is expected to be sworn in as Colombia’s president on August 7.
