Veteran forward Asisat Oshoala and Everton star Toni Payne both scored on Friday to lift Nigeria’s Super Falcons to a 2-1 victory over Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses.

The friendly match, held at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, marked the first-ever meeting between the two national teams.

Nigeria are using these fixtures to prepare for the defence of their 10 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) titles at the upcoming 2026 tournament in Morocco this July and August.

The Super Falcons dominated the first half and built a comfortable two-goal cushion through aggressive attacking and superior possession.

Nigeria took the lead in the 32nd minute when Oshoala converted a penalty kick, marking a triumphant national team return since her last appearance in the WAFCON 2024 final.

Payne then doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute—also her first appearance since the 2024 finals—by finishing a well-worked attacking move set up by right-back Shukurat Oladipo.

Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade nearly added a third goal before the break, but Senegalese goalkeeper Khadi Faye saved her effort.

Nigeria continued to dictate the tempo and enjoy the lion’s share of possession after halftime.

Although the Super Falcons missed several opportunities to extend their lead, the visitors responded late in the match.

Sokhna Pene scored a consolation goal for Senegal in the final minutes with a spectacular long-range effort to reduce the deficit.

Despite a brief spell of late pressure from the Teranga Lionesses, coach Justin Madugu’s squad remained composed and held on for the win.

The two teams will battle again at the same venue on Monday to intensify their WAFCON preparations.
