The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a weather alert stating that residents in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are expected to experience thunderstorms with strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday, April 16.

According to NiMet’s alert, weather conditions may lead to localised flash flooding, lightning strikes, and reduced visibility for motorists in affected areas, raising safety concerns for residents, commuters, and businesses.

The states affected include Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta, as well as the FCT.

Furthermore, the agency warned that the combination of heavy rainfall and strong winds could disrupt daily activities, particularly in areas prone to flooding.

Residents in the affected regions have been advised to take precautionary measures, including avoiding flood-prone areas, securing loose objects that could be displaced by strong winds, and staying indoors during intense rainfall or thunderstorms.

With the forecast alert, residents are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines to minimise potential risks.
