The Nigeria Immigration Service has deployed a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to ease and streamline passport applications for Nigerians living in the diaspora.
The initiative was directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of ongoing efforts to improve passport services for Nigerians abroad.
In a post obtained on the service’s X handle on Sunday, the NIS said the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, had been directed to deploy the team from the service’s headquarters in Abuja to the UK.
According to the service, the team is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on Monday and will work with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications.
The team will also visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing eligible applicants in different parts of the country to access the exercise.
The intervention is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, new applicants and passport holders with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to renew their documents.
Applicants are required to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment. The NIS said the detailed schedule, including the designated cities, dates, venues and enrolment times, would be announced separately.
“Applicants are therefore advised not to proceed to any location until the relevant schedule has been officially communicated,” the service said.
It urged Nigerians in the UK to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for further details.
The service also confirmed that its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would remain fully operational throughout the intervention exercise.
The Nigeria Immigration Service said it remained committed to providing efficient, transparent and responsive passport services to Nigerians in Nigeria and the diaspora.
